We are back!
After long months of training and preparation, the 2024 Triathlon season kicks off in the Mid-West on the 21st April. Our Try-a-Tri event is often a first step into the sport, and is popular with junior and adult athletes, while the Sprint event is often dominated by Junior athletes (16 to 19 year old). Our Olympic distance triathlon is the only pool-based Standard distance event on the Triathlon Ireland calendar and is popular with those who are aiming for an early distance event to get some race miles in. With 3 distances on offer, we often have entire families participating, and we will have athletes aged from 16 to 65 and beyond in action.
There are traditionally a large number of entries from our neighbours in Ennis, Boru, GoTri, Galway, Nenagh, Cork, Tipp, Clonmel, Eden, Predator, Tralee and Trilakes, and we also have big travelling parties and entries too from Pulse, Fingal, Belpark, Wexford, Westport, Blackwater and Cobh.
With such an early in the season event, it’s hard to predict who will be fastest, but with plenty of age group prizes on offer from our prize pot of over €3400, there will be plenty of winners.
We look forward to welcoming our 480 athletes to UL and have fingers crossed for a perfect Spring day.
Every year the Limerick Triathlon Club organise a Triathlon on the grounds of UL in memory of fellow triathlete, friend & club member Joey Hannan. Joey was a true athlete, an elite before his time and one of 8 kids in his family. Each year this event is well supported by his siblings, nieces, nephews and mother.
Every Year the race is run from the grounds of UL. Thanks to the excellent staff and caretakers of the Grounds the facilities are excellent. There are try-a-Tri/Novice, Junior Tri, Sprint & Olympic events all taking place on the same day.
All races have a pool swim, which means that this event is able to take place early in the Triathlon season. It also means that you will not need to wear a wet-suit. The Bike and Run courses are relatively flat and well Marshaled, making the race fast and safe for all, and very un-intimidating for new athletes.
VOLUNTEERS
Limerick Triathlon Club are very proud of the Joey Hannan Triathlon, and are happy each year to have outstanding support from the club and all our volunteers. We thank the volunteers and ask that when dealing with them you remember that they give this time voluntarily to organise this race. If you would like to get involve please email joey_race_secretary@limericktriathlon.com
We know that life and training do not always go according to plan! In the event that you enter but cannot race – we will try to help you work something out. Limerick Triathlon Club do not facilitate refunds, however we would happy to assist in transferring your entry to another athlete. This will be managed and facilitated by our Race Secretary if requested up to and including 05th April 2024
